The Apple App Store has sold an overwhelming amount of games since the launch of iPhone applications. If you are simply looking to kill time, you will find a variety of browser games that you don’t even need to download. A quick Google search from your iPhone will fetch a whole list of games. All you do is point your browser to the site and start playing online. Alternatively, you can download some games to your iPhone for free or less than a dollar. For the serious mobile gamer, there is a host of great games out there, provided you are willing to spend anything up to $50 or more.
Let’s get down to some serious gaming now and take a look at the top ten iPhone games that are real hot now. One of the favorites that reminds me of ‘Dave’, which I used to play on my PC, is Rolando from Ngmoco. You can try their free version or download the full blown version for $5.99. This game received the Pocket Gamer Platinum Award. The thrill lies in tilting your iPhone to help circular creatures or Rolandos, get through obstacles. Put your gaming skills to the test when you need to jump by flicking your finger up on the screen.
Don’t miss Cube Runner for some amazing fun. This game by Andy Qua requires you to fly a ship across an area littered by cubes with the help of a built-in accelerometer. The graphics are in 3D and you can create your own layouts and share them.
For some hardcore gaming, get your fingers on Real Racing from Firemint. You tear down a beautiful race track, tilting your handset as you steer your way through a detailed path. Apart from the single player options, there are a host of multiplayer options to keep you glued to the track.
Another addictive game from Firemint is Flight Control. You have a bird’s-eye view of an airfield and need to guide incoming aircraft down a color coded runway, just like air-traffic controllers do. To avoid any mid-air disasters you have to draw a flight path with your finger as a number of airplanes and helicopters keep swarming in.
For a mind boggling experience, try your hand at Boggle. You need to make words from tiles of letters that are scrambled by simply touching the letters. You can change the grid size and make as many words as you can in the stipulated time.
You can boast your engineering skills with Tiki Towers from Real Arcade. The task is to construct a series of bridges and towers out of bamboo sticks to help rescue a gang of chimps. If you bungle up in the construction, you can watch everything tumble down, and then start all over again. This game tests your knowledge of physics, but of course, with loads of fun.
Another challenging game is Galcon. This is a super fast space game where you and your opponent drag ships to nearby planets and fight to take control of them. Every time you conquer a planet, you are awarded more ships as a bonus. The idea is to conquer larger planets.
For a great 3D experience Bugdom2 is a game worth trying on your iPhone. You are transformed into a grasshopper named Skip McFly, as you explore houses and yards around you, meeting some friends and foes along the way.
For some serious action, get a ‘load’ of iShoot – fire away from a battle tank in a quest to destroy other tanks along the way. All you need to do is aim with the touch screen. You can buy weapons at the end of each round and of course, the last tank standing is the clear winner.
Full marks also go to Zen Bound from Chillingo. This is a game where you can relax and enjoy the experience of wrapping a bunch of 3D objects with a single length of string. You can rotate the objects with your finger, while the string entwines the objects in turn.
To be fair, there are many brilliant games available at the App store. All you need to do is test some out and make your own personal list of the top ten iPhone games.
